[ He's just put some bread in the toaster (gotta get some of those Good Carbs for some Good Midterm Studyin') when the doorbell rings, startling him quite severely.
He pads on over to the door, peeps through the peephole, and is just about to let this total stranger into his home... when he spots it.
That bakery box.
He can't tell.
But it's entirely possible it contains cupcakes.
Quickly, he ducks away from the peephole and presses his back to the door... Did she see him?? Did he make a sound?? He thinks it's probably been about two weeks since Minato told him to avoid all cupcakes, and it's also possible this girl doesn't have cupcakes at all, but... he just can't risk it, can he?? ]
This is so complicated. If she's the one Minato warned him against letting in, then he has to honor the promise he made and pretend no one is home. But if she's not, then he's really being very rude! (Actually, even if she is, this is pretty rude, but he had already resigned himself to that rudeness.)
And what if this is a real delivery? He didn't order anything, but maybe Minato did.
That's it! He'll just text and ask. ...Except... no... his phone's in his room... and he doesn't think he can make it there without being spotted.
If only there were some way of knowing what's in the box!! But even if he had X-ray vision, it would be unethical to use it on an unsuspecting, un-radiation-shielded person. ]
...
...
[ If he just keeps waiting, maybe she'll decide no one is here after all... ]
[Minako rocks on her heels for a bit, and after a full minute she knocks again.]
Hellooooo?
[A quick glance to her wristwatch. She only allotted a certain amount of time to try and bust in-- er, visit her brother and his roommate...please answer the door :c]
[ She still hasn't given up!! And the more time passes, the guiltier he feels. He spends about fifteen seconds pondering over the best course of action when... back in the kitchen, the toaster pops.
That sound, which she can't possibly have missed, galvanizes him. He straightens (rising to his full five feet!), turns, takes a deep breath, and opens the door. ]
[ WELL SHE HAD A BAKERY BOX THOUGH. WHAT WAS HE SUPPOSED TO THINK. ]
Oh, not at all! If anything, it's more like he's taking care of me.
[ That's false, obviously, but this is a meaningless social nicety, not a sworn testimony. (In fact, Minato and Jamie are more or less evenly matched when it comes to their cavalier approach to personal wellness, adequate sleep, balanced meals, etc. It's even theoretically possible that their shared weaknesses are a negative influence on one another's habits, and that continuing to live together will have a detrimental effect on both of them... Then again, maybe not!) ]
Minato's not home right now, I'm afraid. Can I offer you something to drink, though? I think there's orange juice.
Oh no, thank you, but I'm fine. I only wanted to drop that off and say hello to you. I wasn't sure if Minato had mentioned me, so I thought I should introduce myself.
[And prove to him that she could gain entry into his apartment by bribing his roommate. Though in this case it's more of an appeal to his manners, but hey, same difference!]
[ Ooohh... she's sneaky... but Jamie didn't do anything Minato asked him not to, plus he gets melon bread out of it, so there's no way he could regret it. ]
Yes, I am. I'm a premed sociology major... this is my junior year, so I'm getting ready for the MCAT. What about you?
Ooh, that's the big one for you guys, isn't it? for Good luck to you! [She clasps her hands behind her back, rocking on her heels a bit.] I used to be a Criminology and Psychology major, but I decided to switch to Management earlier this year. It suits me much better.

Hi!
Sorry for the wait!
[ He smiles cheerily and offers no explanation! ]

Hello! You're Jaime, right?

[ What else might she have approximate knowledge of?? His eyes dart quickly down to the box, then back up to her face. ]
Who might you be?
...Please, come in.

Nice to meet you, Jamie. I'm Minako Arisato! I just wanted to drop some melon bread off for you and Minato.
[She holds out the bakery box to him, beaming.]

It's melon bread!!
[ now there's a full second of silence. ]
Oh! You're...
Oh, gosh! It's so nice to meet you!
[ He bows! (He's American, but he knows more or less how to behave In the Japanese Style, and he's pretty sure she grew up there or whatever.)
Still bowing, he reaches out and takes the box. ]

It's nice to meet you too! I've been wanting to meet you since my brother told me about you. He's a finicky guy, but please take care of him.
